I am a practicing psychodynamic psychotherapist, having completed a 6 year intensive training program through the Centre of Training in Psychotherapy. My extensive work as a client also informs my work as a psychotherapist.
Psychodynamic psychotherapy is built on the premise that how we define ourselves and who we are in the world is a complex weave of our past and our present, our conscious and our unconscious. With our best efforts, we can still find ourselves struggling, frozen, anxious, overwhelmed and fearful.
With a dedicated hour each week, I welcome you to start where you are and to share whatever is most pressing. All aspects of your life's experience are valuable. In addition to looking at your history and what you are currently facing, we may explore your dreams, associations, patterns, embodied experience, health history, the possibility of intergenerational trauma.
As your psychotherapist, I will act as witness, guide, and sometimes foil. I will, if appropriate, share something personal if it speaks to the intersection at which my journey and yours connect. At other times, I will listen quietly. Other times still, I might ask questions, share an observation or an image or interpretation. And I will not always get it right. All our exchanges and experience together are part of the work itself, constituting the therapeutic relationship.
The regular, weekly practice of a dedicated hour together invites time to process, digest, uncover, recover, express what in you most needs attending to. It invites you to be. It works towards hope, curiosity, and perhaps, change. It would be my honour to accompany you on your journey.
