I have seventeen years of experience as a therapeutic counselor guided by the principles of Humanistic Psychotherapies. My approach to therapy is eclectic in nature and draws primarily upon Person Centered Therapy utilizing a Christian lens. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Existential Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy are all utilized in my approach of understanding and treating my clients' presenting challenges.
As a Person Centered Therapist, I am always guided by the following three beliefs:
1. Congruence the willingness to transparently relate to clients without hiding behind a professional or personal facade.
2. Unconditional positive regard the therapist offers an acceptance and prizing for their client for who he or she is without conveying disapproving feelings, actions or characteristics and demonstrating a willingness to attentively listen without interruption, judgement or giving advice.
3. Empathy the therapist communicates their desire to understand and appreciate their client's perspective.
As my client, you will always find an environment where you can be yourself and know that you are fully understood, appreciated, and never judged. Furthermore, you will also discover that within our sessions my perspective will be that of a healer and not a teacher: my role is to help my clients examine the pros and cons of their challenges, and as such, empower them to make personal informed choices regardless of their challenges and choices.
